When Comerica decided to move their headquarters from Detroit to Dallas, some local yokels were demanding that The Detroit Tigers change the name of their stadium from Comerica Park to almost anything else. Does it really matter? Are people really swayed to buy a product because a company has its logo on the wall? Personally, I think it’s nice to see a business support a team on the scholastic level because that school probably needs the financial help. On the major league level, however, I think it’s pointless. I really don’t care that this company is helping line the team owner’s pocket with money. How do you feel?

To me, as a sports fan, it doesn't matter much. I still call Comerica Park "Tiger Stadium", I do however call Ford Field by correct name. I think it helps a regional marketer like Comerica more than a national in that as Comerica moves to other markets, the baseball fans will have already heard of them, because of hearing the name of the park. Just like we had already heard of Gallery Furniture before we opened an office in Houston, because they had the Furniture Gallery.com bowl in college football.
It can backfire, though. I still hate DTE for changing the name of Pine Knob to DTE Energy Music whatever, which I still refuse to call that venue.
